Loading... Please wait...Is your spa over three years old? If so, there's a good chance your spa ozonator needs replacing.
Most spas come with ozone, but spa owners weren't told to maintain it (the spa salesperson didn't want to scare you). The fact is, ozone is a critical component just like a pump, heater and filter. Ozone is in charge of the spa water sanitation. More powerful than chlorine and bromine, ozone disinfects the water and leaves you with crystal clear water that looks, smells, and feels great.
If you're like most, you were unaware you had ozone, and that it expired. What you DID notice, however, was an increase in chemical use. Do you ask yourself, "why is the chemistry so hard to balance? It use to be so easy." Yep. That's your ozonator, begging to be replaced.
In 2009, DEL Ozone brought Ozone Test Kits to the market. Designed for Spa Technicians, they are sold in 10-packs. We break them down and repackage them into singles to meet your needs (buy 1, 2, 3, etc). Our packaging is funky, used materials like shampoo bottles, which are eco-friendly and protect the tests.
TIP: In DEL Ozone's video below, the ozone test is performed at the ozone generator's nipple. That is the safest place to test because there is no sticky, yellow nitric acid (which can irritate your skin). You CAN test it here, but know this: if your spa ozonator has aged, the nipple will snap off. If your ozonator nipple looks brittle, test instead at the ozone check valve (this is where spa technicians test).
If you choose to test at the check valve, buy an ozone check valve. In most cases, the check valve is stuck and cutting it out is much simpler. Check valves should be replaced every year, maybe two. If you don't need it now, you will soon.
Do you need an ozone test? Not necessarily. Most spa ozonators need to be replaced every 2-3 years, and some strut their stuff for 5 years (like DEL's MCD-50, SO, HO and T3). If your spa is over five years old, don't waste time or money testing the ozone generator, just replace it.
